  Case: Cell Phones
I am an intern in a high school EBD classroom. The students have great difficulty putting their cell phones away, and often ignore me the asked or take it right back out. We are not supposed to confiscate the phones. What should I do to get them to put their phones away?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I am also an intern in a high school classroom, but mine is ESE without EBD. One teacher with whom I am working has a basket by the door of the classroom. She requires that all students place their cell phones in the bin as they enter the classroom. The students are familiar with this policy and, for the most part, cooperate. That being said, for those who do not and are caught using their cell phones, the teacher makes sure to follow the policy of confiscating the phone and writing a referral. After her doing this the first time, it has not been an issue since. The students saw that she was not kidding about this policy and decided it was easier to cooperate.

Comments: This is a great idea and I would totally use this. The only problem is that I think in this current situation the school does not allow confiscation, so something else needs to be done.

Comments: This is the most reasonable solution. Not all students will have the necessary technology to allow a teacher to integrate cell phones in the classroom on a regular basis. There is room integrate technology such as this - supplementing a lesson with a group trivia game on sites such as Kahoot. But it's not reasonable to integrate cell phones as a daily activity, effectively building a classroom around the distraction.

Comments: I like the basket idea, phones tend to be a huge distraction and when I was in High School I hated the rule but now looking back it is completely understandable because it keeps children off task from learning.

Comments: I think solution is the best because it means that the students are not having their phones confiscated but that they do not also have the phones in their possession so they cannot use them.

Comments: Students are in school to learn. Follow school policies and procedures when it comes to phones. The students should already know the rules, to begin with, but remind them of the rules.

Comments: I would do exactly this, as this make the CT in control of her classroom and she can focus on making sure her students are learning the lesson and that they understand instead learning half the lesson and being loss when it comes to them doing the homework.
