  Case: Sexist Parent
I have a male student that works very well with the other boys in the classroom but when it comes to working with the girls he says a lot of sexist comments such as, "Why do you even try when you're just going to end up in the kitchen." I asked for a conference with the parents and found out that the father has been teaching him very sexist things. He continuously disrespected me and told me that what his son was saying is the truth in the end. His mother was not there and so I felt very uncomfortable and very mad that his father was treating me this way. I have tried contacting the mother to try and get her to come in but she constantly cancels on me and does not respond to any of my emails or notes. What should I do?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
This is a major issue that needs to be addressed with parents and tell them that attitude will not be allowed in your classroom.

Comments: I think that this is a good start to a solution as it does reinforce that while the behavior might be allowed at home and might be act it out by his parents, it tells the student that it will not be allowed in your classroom which is the important part. Making sure that your own personal rules inside of your classroom are reinforced and are handled as they should be, does show that there are rules and other places and not everything is like home

Comments: This solution is not helpful as the teacher has already attempted to communicate with the parents several times and the father was rude and the mother would not respond.

Comments: I feel like there needs to be more action done than just addressing the parents and the student about the "attitude" in the classroom. Sitting down with other teachers can be useful so that you have backup with talking to the parents.

Comments: There is no real solution as if the father is saying these things then the mother might not be able to assist. The solution is also generic.
