Case: Time-Out
I have a student who very often has to go into time out during extra curricular time, because not listening or fighting with other students. Every time the student has to go into time out he cries and cries and cries. I feel bad but he has to learn. I am not sure how to handle this situation.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Putting them in timeout is probably making them happy since they are getting to miss curricular time. I do not agree with this strategy. |

Comments: I agree that in some cases, some students may purposefully act out in order to get out of certain tasks however, other students see "time out" as a major consequence to their behavior and can help contribute to promoting better behavior. |

Comments: There has to be some kind of discipline for not listening and following directions. |

Comments: Students do not see time out as a reward. Sometimes a different strategy to teach the student is needed and a behavioral management plan should be implemented. |
