Case: What part of being a teacher scares you?
If you are asked this question in a job interview for a teaching position: What are some things you should avoid when responding to this question? What might be some important points to stress that would get the interviewer's attention? How would you respond to this question?

I think listing too many fears being a teacher would discourage the interviewer. I would respond to this question by stating that my only fear as a teacher is that not all of my students will receive the support and assistance from their parents that they deserve. Something that may get the interviewer's attention in this response would be to add that, "I will do everything within my power to overcome this fear by providing my students with support, even in a situation in which they are not receiving it at home". |

| Comments: If I were in this situation, I would do exactly this. I completely agree that the biggest fear can most certainly be that of students not having the support from home, but it is great to offer your services as a teacher to go the extra mile to ensure all students will get the help they need. |

| Comments: I agree that you should not list many fears because that could discourage the interviewer. It is a great idea to let the interviewer know that you will do whatever it takes to overcome whatever fear you listed to help the students because they are the most important in this situation. |

| Comments: I don't think that it is a good idea to specifically target one idea of why you might be scared to be a teacher, especially if it is your first year doing so. Yes, you had practice during internships but this classroom is yours, it is most likely expected to be scary for a teacher. Allow yourself a little bit of room to express your fears but only if they are real, logical fears and not silly fears like you're afraid a student is going to bite you. |
