I am beginning to feel as if part of my job is to provide my students with classroom materials at all times. You can send a flyer home asking the parents to donate school supplies. You could also just tell them you don't have any because you give it away to them everyday so they're going to have to ask one of their peers for materials. Once their peers start getting annoyed i think they'll start bringing stuff to class.
