Case: Innapropriate conversations
I am currently interning in an elementary school and during a specials break I overheard two kindergarten teachers talking about inappropriate things. there were no students around to overhear the conversation but I did and was offended. What is the appropriate course of action?

A first step you can take is to present these issues with the teachers who are speaking inappropriately. Sometimes all someone needs is a friendly reminder of the rules to prevent the inappropriate behavior from happening again. They may not realize that what they are saying is offensive until someone tells them. If they are uncooperative and continue to speak this way, you should bring this to the attention of administration. |

| Comments: I agree the first step is to ask them to not discuss whatever they were discussing at school and remind them that children could hear and that it makes others uncomfortable. Sometimes people are just unaware of boundaries. That's what I would do. |

| Comments: If I were in this situation, I would exactly do this. Im one who tends to be confrontational i don't like to do things behind peoples back. I would agree, go talk to them let them know that its was kind of offensive and that theres a time and place for certain conversations. |

| Comments: You could nonchalantly remind the teachers of the rules without directly saying something to them because I think they would get offended and feel entitled because they ARE the teachers and you're the intern. So just bring it up and don't bring up exact things they said because they may feel attacked. Even though its wrong, I agree with you and I like your solution but I think it would be better to casually bring it up first. Then maybe bring it up directly if it doesn't stop and then last resort is to bring it to administrators attention |
