  Case: A valedictorian
You are a high school teacher, and Luke Stresswell is at the top of his class with some close competition not far behind. He is doing well in your class, but the focus of the conference with his parents becomes, "Luke cannot get an A- in your class because he is valedictorian." What would you do in this situation?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
It is important that you encourage the parent to keep active in their child's education, but that his grade solely relies on his efforts and that you can not provide any special treatment to him, assign extra credit assignments etc. It would be important as the teacher to bring the focus of the conference back to what it was originally intended for or dismiss the meeting if the parents do not get back on board with the intentions of the meeting.

Comments: Great solution. Ultimately, the grade of the student reflects the effort they put into the class. Special treatment should not be promoted.

Comments: I agree that you need to express to the parent that their child's grade will be based solely on their efforts and work and that you never give any extra credit or preference to students unless you provide it to the whole class.

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would do exactly this. This is because this option helps encourage the parents to keep their child motivated and allows the teacher to explain that he cannot give their son any extra credit because it would be an unfair advantage to the other students. Also the best thing the teacher could do in this situation is to let the parents know that the grade their son will earn will be the grade that he deserves for his work (nothing else).

Comments: I think this is the best solution because it lets the parents know that no exceptions will be made for their child so that way the student will not be going home to their parents to see what they can do to enhance their grades. The parents will already know there is nothing that can be done if they did not earn the grade on their own.
