There is a zero-tolerance policy for bullying on school campus. Talk to the class about bullying and make sure they feel safe enough to report it. Go over the proper procedures for reporting an incident. Education is the most powerful weapon. Every school has specific procedures and in addition to the teacher discussing the problem with the class and how bullying is not okay, the teacher also needs to handle the problem privately with specific individuals and follow the school's procedures. I think going over this issue at the beginning of the year and stressing the importance of empathy and respect are just as important as the zero-tolerance policy itself.
