Case: ESE Student Romantic Relationships
I have observed a high school ESE classroom in which multiple girls claim to be with the same boy. All of the girls surround this boy and will sometimes fight with each other over this one boy. These romantic relationships and conflicts are keeping them off task and distracting other students during group/independent work. How can the teacher address this issue?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
That is more of a personal issue but since it is effecting the school work, you can have a meeting with the students parents who are involved. Let them know whats going on and see if they can resolve the issue. |

Comments: I do not think that first alerting the parents of the issue will help, and may actually cause the problem to become worse. Parents could have an issue with their child having any relationship with someone of the opposite sex, and lead to punitive action by parents. Also, speaking with the students before escalating it to their parents would be advisable. |

Comments: I would not start out with this as a solution. I believe you need to address it before going straight to the parents and relying on them to solve issues inside the classroom. |

Comments: I think that it might be better to talk to the students first before going directly to their parents. |

Comments: I would not do this, I would first start by talking to the students about the situation and then if it continues after multiple attempts then bring the parents in to it. Some parents might be annoyed with having to attend a meeting about this without the students receiving warnings first. |
