Case: Siblings
I noticed that there were a pair of twins in the course. The twins would sometimes act out together and make fun of other students, I have reached out to the parents and they continue to bully other students. I have written them up numerously and it does no good, what else is there to do to keep the siblings out of trouble?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would separate the students from each other when they are inside of the classroom. I would not allow them to work together on group projects. Each day that they go without misbehaving, I would reward them, and send home word that they have been behaving well. |

Comments: This is fair to the twins and the other students. Together, they are doing a disservice to the classroom, and themselves in class. It's no different than any two students who are disruptive in class, and causing others to become off task. Separate them. I like the idea of a reward of good news to the parents if they have been good throughout the week. It would also be wise to think of scheduling a conference with the parents before resorting to separating them, because meeting face-to-face can produce different results than talking over the phone. |

Comments: I would do the same thing. Letting them sit together and work on projects together is not a good idea. Rewarding them is a good idea and would hopefully improve the issue. |

Comments: I would not separate these students. They will most likely just resent the teacher and act out when the can. Lunch, recess, etc. |

Comments: Great solution! You start by giving them the benefit of the doubt and separate them in the classroom before going to the extent of more consequences. |

Comments: I think it should be the parents choice if siblings are in the same class together. If they are going to be disruptive find a way for their behavior to improve. |

Comments: I agree with this. i think it is okay to separate siblings, especially twins. I actually thought it was a normal thing to do. Twins can become very attached to each other and it hurts there social growth. That could also be why they are bullying other peers? They might not want to be friends with anyone else because they have such a bond themselves. I wouldn't look at it as separating siblings and look at it as you are separating best friends. If they are being disruptive, causing trouble, etc. most teachers would automatically separate those friends. |

Comments: I think keeping them separated is the best solution because then they cannot engage in negative behavior together and spur one another on. |

Comments: I agree with this. You don't have to separate them into different classes, but they need to have different spots within the class to decrease their time together to gang up on others. |

Comments: I don't think separating them will do much good and is unfair. If the problem itself isn't resolved, the students will continue to do it in other classes as they grow up. |

Comments: I agree, first separating them to see how that works & if it's working well reward & praise and maybe in the future try to see if they could be together again without misbehaving. |

Comments: Although I think siblings should be in the same class, it is situational. Some siblings can behave well together and some cannot and in this situation the siblings should be separated. |
