Home | How It Works | Stats Login | Register         Case: Lazy Group Members There is an issue I have observed in a high school classroom in which students were split up into groups of 6 to do a collaboration project outside of class. In one group, only two members were participating while the other 4 did nothing. Time is ticking and the project due date is quickly approaching. The two participating members of the group have expressed to the teacher their frustrations with the lazy group members. They have tried reaching out to the lazy group members, but they are still not participating. What should the teacher do? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) In turn, the students who are participating will end up with a poor grade. Individual grades are ideal in the situation. While it may be a quick fix, you would need to make sure that by assigning the different jobs they are all even with the amount of participation involved. You would also need to consider how to evaluate the group because if one person did not do the assigned job it would negatively impact the whole group. But maybe monitoring to make sure they all have a part is a good idea! The lazy students I feel are going to be lazy with an assigned task or not.
