Case: Tattoos
I am interested in knowing some schools' policies are for teacher tattoos. Are they to covered at all times? What if a teacher has one on their ankle, wrist, behind ear? I would like to know from teachers whom have received teaching positions with tattoos, just how the rules are.

It all depends on the school/district's policies, as well as the principle. In most cases, it's expected to have tattoos hidden when on the job. I have met quite a few teachers who don't have to hide their tattoos, as long as they are not inappropriate. Some of the appropriate tattoos teachers have had are flowers, quotes, breast cancer ribbons, animals, etc. Something they'd want hidden is nudity, cursing, violence, horror, etc. To be safe, I would hide any visible tattoos if you are unaware of the policies your school, or expected school, has. |

| Comments: This sounds like the best solution. In any job interview, its best to cover up all tattoos to make a good impression and then later show them. Tattoos usually won't make or break it between getting the job or not, but its better to be ahead. |

| Comments: I agree that during the interview it would be best to cover up any tattoos you have. In regards to you teaching with tattoos I've seen many teachers showing their tattoos but they are appropriate tattoos. I think becoming a teacher doesn't mean you can not be your self and have tattoos but I do think that you need to think of what tattoos are displayed on your body as someone teaching young children. |
