  Case: Their kids play sports
You are a high school teacher, and Caleb Rushmore is the star running back for the football team. He sleeps in class and is extremely focused on football, and is, in fact, counting on a football scholarship. When his parents come in to conference, their main concern is his sports participation and eligibility. How would you handle this situation?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would make it very clear to the parents that their child will not earn a football scholarship if he continues to sleep in class and does not take his academics seriously. This might upset the parents at first, but they need to hear it. I would suggest to them that they make sure he gets enough rest at home, and hire a tutor for him if he needs it. I would explain that, although it would be fantastic for the student to receive a football scholarship, he cannot do so without maintaining a certain GPA. After that information is discussed, we can talk about his sports participation and eligibility.

Comments: I think this is a great place to start. It is important for students who play sports to understand how grades and school effect sports and that you won't just get to go somewhere by being good at a sport. It is great to point out that the student will not receive a sports scholarship without a certain GPA and also important to explain that in order to keep a sports scholarship and stay on a sports team, each student has to maintain a certain GPA. I think if students were passionate enough about sports this would be a good motivator.

Comments: I would not do this, I understand that the parents need to realize that the student needs to focus on schoolwork but yelling at them wont help.

Comments: I feel that it is important to let the parents know they have a talent son but has some areas to work on when it comes to academics. I don't think it would be beneficial to tell the parents what to do when it comes to handling their son but offer different ways they can help and be there for support.

Comments: tutors can be 3xpensive and if the kid is already tired from homework and practice they wont have time to go to a tutor
