  Case: not enough time
There are students in the class that need a bit of extra time to finish their work but then they get behind in the next subject. I usually have them take the extra work home and bring it back but they have not been doing that. What are some suggestion I can do to alleviate this problem?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I think maybe you could have them stay during lunch or recess that way they realize that if they aren't going to accept the nice extra time at home you are giving them they can use their free time.

Comments: While I dislike taking recess away from students, sometimes it is necessary for motivation. Suddenly they will work much faster.

Comments: Most of the teachers I have worked with use recess or morning time to get caught up on assignments or homework the student does not do.

Comments: I agree. If they can't get it done at home then they will have to get it done during recess or free play.

Comments: I feel like if you take away their recess or lunch time, the student will feel like they are being punished for being a slow learner.

Comments: I dont like this answer because I think that kids look forward to their lunch and especially recess time to unwind and be with their friends in a non scholarly setting. This also gives them time to get energy out of their system and thus could lead to increased attention in school.

Comments: I think this suggestion is a little too harsh depending on the age group, some students might just not be able to do their work at home

Comments: I don't think withholding recess or lunch time is a good solution as it could be seen as a punishment for lack of understanding, and will not ultimately motivate the students to succeed.

Comments: Taking away a students lunch or recess can have negative effects on their behavior. If the student just simply needs extra time, it shouldn't be taken away from their free time. If they were acting out or misbehaving, that's another story.

Comments: This solution sounds like punishment for students that spend more time on assignments. I would suggest trying to come up with a more creative solution and trying to rearrange things in the classroom before taking things away from students that might take more time to finish assignments.

Comments: I think this is only a good solution if there are only a couple of students with this problem, and they are displaying a clear lack of time management. Otherwise, if they are working hard but just not finishing, then they should not be punished for it.
