The frustrating part was not that he would not participate but that his teachers allowed it to happen because it was better that he was at school than at his home. It was frustrating because (1) the student was not learning and (2) the student obviously had a horrible homelife. Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) I think it would be best for the student to meet with a guidance counselor to help with his home life situation. It is also important the student understands that classroom assignments and projects are not an option. While he can't go home because of his situation, there are always options of in school suspensions.
