  Case: Just not hard enough
The parent contacts you stating that following. Parent : I don't think you are making the class work hard enough. My child hardly ever has homework and I think you are dumbing down the curriculum because there are some trouble-makers and ‘Special Education' students in the class. How would you approach this situation?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would offer the student not more homework, but homework that involves more thinking and high order questions.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) No
The suggested solution is relevant to the case Yes
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement Yes
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue No
The suggested solution is original Yes
Comments: I think it would be best to observe the students first in the class and see if they are on a higher thinking level. If they are I would get a hold of the parents about the situation and get the student tested for the gifted program.

Comments: You're along the right lines, but I think you'd need to do more than just give them higher leveled homework. I'd meet with the parents and observe the child and even get them tested for gifted.

Comments: I don't understand how you would do this without changing the curriculum for all students AND not give extra work.
