  Case: Lost lunch boxes
A mother comes in ranting for the third time this week stating that their child's lunch box. You as the teacher should be looking into this and that they are not going to send their child to school with a lunch box anymore as they can't afford to replace it.
Parent : I am sick of this. This is the third time I have had to look for my child's lunch box. I am not going to replace this one.
Continue this scenario to resolve the issue.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
As the teacher I would suggest that instead of using a lunch box, they could try using a brown bag, or plastic bag that can be thrown away at the end of lunch. This will help because I won't be responsible for anything, and the student won't be able to lose anything. If the parent insists on having a lunch box, I can suggest having the parent give small rewards for everyday that the student brings home the lunchbox. This will motivate the student to care more about the lunchbox.

Comments: This can be very bad for the environment. There is a bigger issue to this also. What if someone is stealing the lunchboxes.

Comments: I like this idea if it's the student who is misplacing the lunchbox. On the other hand, if the lunchbox is getting stolen then I think it's important that the teacher talks to the students about the issue and pays closer attention to the situation.

Comments: I think it isn't something that should be the teacher's problem and that we shouldn't be blamed for it. Offer something like keeping the lunchbox behind your desk, but make it clear that it's not your fault.

Comments: I would not suggest this, if they can not afford to replace the lunch box then they cant afford to continually by paper bags, this also seems like you are placing the blame on the student/parent without knowing all of the details.

Comments: I would be careful with this solution. Only because the parent might take offense if you say to bring a brown paper bag so that you won't have to be responsible.

Comments: The student may not want to carry a paper bag because all of the other students have lunch boxes. It may not be the parent and the students fault and the lunchbox could be stolen so a different approach would be better.

Comments: I think this is a great idea, but if there is a reason for the missing lunchboxes it needs to be addressed.

Comments: If the parent is already expressing that they can't afford to replace the lunchbox then it probably wouldn't be affordable for them to continuously buy paper bags.
