Case: Homework
parent comes into class and wants to make a suitable time to discuss the amount of homework given to the child. They state that there is too much homework and their child can't possibly get it all done. They state that you as the teacher expect far too much. How do you handle this situation?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
As a teacher, you should take all aspects into consideration. The parent states that you are giving too much homework to the students with not enough time for the students to accomplish. The teacher should evaluate the class and check to see what other students are having the same problem. If it turns out to be all the students are having trouble handing in their homework on time and being completed then you as a teacher should shorten the requirements and give more time. BUT, if it's proven that it's just the one student's problem then you could work out some kind of arrangement where the student will have individual time with you and work on the homework before or after school. |

Comments: great idea. Teachers should make sure they are respecting the time children have with their parents as well as what needs to be done at home

Comments: Looking at all aspects of the situation is a balanced approach to this problem. It is possible that the teacher needs to review their assignments and the time commitment out of school that is required. IF it is a single student issue then working with the parent and providing added support time is a positive alternative. |

Comments: Evaluating your teaching i think is an important step to take first then evaluating if its just one student. |

Comments: I think every suggestion you made would be exactly how I would handle this situation. it is important to ask the other students and parents as well to see if you are actually giving too much homework and did not realize it. Everyone is human and makes mistakes at times. It is an excellent idea to pull the student aside if it is just that student to help them if they have any questions or just to give them the ability to have extra time to work on the homework before they leave. |

Comments: I thought this solution was perfect. I really like how you said a teacher should determine how the entire class feels as a whole before just changing the required work. |
