Case: Kissing at recess
Some of the kids have made up a new game at recess. The boys will chase the girls with kissing gestures and sometimes kiss them when tagged and vice-versa. I have witnessed this game and told students to stop. The matter was also addressed to the whole class after recess. One week, later students are playing the game again. What should I do?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would keep telling them that this is not okay until hopefully it stops. Eventually if it is still happening I would have a talk one on one with each parent so they know what is going on at recess. |

Comments: I think by continuing to tell the students with no action of penalty is just enabling the behavior. Obviously the students are not listening. I would suggest to remind them of the rules that the game is not allowed and if it continues those involved must sit out on the sidelines at recess. |

Comments: I don't think hoping it stops will solve the problem. Talking with parents is a great step. |

Comments: Telling the students that their actions are not okay will not get them to stop this behavior. This solution is the worst in my opinion. |

Comments: I think more immediate action needs to be taken. It may create a bigger situation if we hope that it'll eventually just stop. |

Comments: I do not believe this is the best way to go about this situation. Instead the teacher should add consequences not just hope it will stop. |

Comments: A problem like this needs to be stopped right away instead of relying on the fact of hoping that it will stop. |

Comments: Address and advice the students of the situation, remind them that they have already been told once. Communicate the consequences if such an infraction re occurs, but also offer alternative suggestions like freeze tag instead.

Comments: While I agree that contacting parents is a necessary course of action, merely telling the students over and over will not be enough. |

Comments: I would not follow this solution. Nt addressing the situation immediately with parent contact and consequences will allow the game to continue. |

Comments: This is not an effective way to stop the behavior. Students need consequences outside of just talking to their parent. |

Comments: I would try having a class discussion and maybe reach out to administration. I would also contact the parents but not meet with each one individually. |

Comments: 'Hopefully, it stops'... this does not seem like an effective correction method. It's like beating a dead horse. Alternative methods of correction should be explored. Results require testing and measuring, not hope. |
