Case: Uninvolved parent
I have a parent in my internship class who does not care about the students misbehavior. What can I do to try to get the parent more on the same page with me?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
First, a conference will need to be held. Next, be the parent to a certain degree! Have a reward system, give them talks, punish them appropriately. |

Comments: It is important to have the meetings, yet setting up a system for the student is what will make the difference. |

Comments: Punishment while warranted, might not be the thing that actually changes this behavior, especially since the issue is getting the parent involved or caring about the student's behavior. |

Comments: From what I understand by the case punishing this student will not matter to the student. |

Comments: While I think aspects of this solution are helpful, I do not think teachers should attempt to over-parent a child. Teachers are a system of support that can be outside the family and I believe they should have that disconnect in that way to remain a safe go-to. |

Comments: I think this solution is helpful, but I don't think it was really worded appropriately. You shouldn't have to be the parent, but a reward system is definitely important to help the child understand how his behavior effects him and the classroom. |

Comments: I think you should never feel like a parent for an student, you can reward the student but I do not think punish it is appropriate. |

Comments: I wouldn't go as far as saying be the parent, but I do agree that a reward system needs to implemented. If a consistent routine is provided to the student at school then misbehavior might not be common. |

Comments: I do not think that this solution would solve the problem because it is the parent's job to parent and our job to educate the child. I think that by taking the parent's role more problems would be caused because the parent may take offense to the teacher doing their job. |

Comments: I would not do this in this situation. I disagree with this solution because it doesn't answer the original question. It doesn't give any solutions on how to get the parents on the same page. I also would never do this because their is a line between being a teacher and being a parent. |
