Case: Bullies in the playground
A parent comes in after school and states that their child is being continually bullied in the playground.
Parent: "I've come away from work early to deal with this problem. You wouldn't know because this happens during playtime and there is never a teacher on duty. It is always happening, the school does nothing about it and the child is too scared to come to school."
Continue this scenario to resolve the issue.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would let the parent know that there is indeed a teacher on the playground and it is unfortunate that the student didn't come and see me to handle it. I would also let the parent know that I will handle it in a way that will not single out the student to the bully. Also, if the problem persists I will find a way to separate the students during that time. |

| Comments: I think that I would approach the situation with a different attitude and be empathetic with the parents. Also, I would ask the teacher on the playground to keep an eye on the student and who they are with. I would pull the student aside and speak with them one on one to get more information. If it is a valid, true situation, then I would then take further action, sending the student to administration, promoting a safe classroom environment, and call the parents. |

| Comments: I agree with this solution to the problem. It is important to reassure the parent that an adult teacher is watching nearby. I also like the idea of letting the parent know that their child can come to the teacher anytime there is a problem or issue between them and another student. It is smart to handle the situation quietly so you do not create more of a problem. Separating the students if needed would also help to solve the problem. |

| Comments: I agree with this solution as well, however I would immediately try to defend myself or the school to them about a teacher being on duty. I think the appropriate course of action would be to reassure the parent that the school has a zero tolerance on bullying and you will do your best to discover the issue and resolve it. Reassurance is key for parents. |
