I try to ignore them but is there a better way to handle this when it happens again? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) Always plan ahead for what kind of questions you will be asking the class, for example, try to avoid non-academic questions that involve student opinions. If ignoring the student does not help then it is probably best to have a one on one discussion with the student and let them know that that kind of sarcastic behavior is not funny and that it deters from other students learning. Asking purely academic questions will make it more difficult for the student to give an entertaining sarcastic answer when called on. If the student gives sarcastic remarks to academic questions, a discussion with the student and parents about the consequences of their behavior may be necessary.
