  Case: Noises
A student makes an awful groan noise when he is told what to do next in class. This would not normally bother me except for the fact that after a couple of months the whole class is not groaning when I tell them what they are to do next.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would probably start by ignoring the groans to attempt to put the behavior on extinction. I would also begin to praise the students who are not groaning and stress how pleased you are that they are approaching something so positively (exaggerate if you must). Another thing to consider is actually asking the students as to why they react in the way that they do and setting up a reward system for enthusiastic students.

Comments: This solution is helpful because speaking with the student about the behavior is important. Maybe they groan because they do not think they are capable of doing the work. I also like that this person said to praise the other students for not making the noise. I always believe in fighting bad behaviors but praising the right behavior.

Comments: This could be a double-edge sword. By ignoring the groans it could eventually lead it to extinction, but it could also lead the behavior to exists. I think to help create the extinction would be to provide positive feedback towards students who do not participate in the behavior.

Comments: Praising the students not doing it is good as well as asking the others why they are doing it.

Comments: Positive reinforcement is always my go to! Reward systems are a good last resort, but they can help reduce unwanted behavior if students are enticed.
