  Case: Noises
A student makes an awful groan noise when he is told what to do next in class. This would not normally bother me except for the fact that after a couple of months the whole class is not groaning when I tell them what they are to do next.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Making noises is a type of behavior that should never be tolerated. Just because it is not bothering the rest of the class does not mean it is ok, especially if it is a groan that is following directions. The teacher needs to address it right away, and make sure that the student knows that the behavior will not be tolerated. If needed, the teacher can incorporate a token economy system, rewarding students who are following directions and showing the appropriate behaviors. This can help the student, and hopefully he/she will stop the noises.

Comments: This approach will likely cause the student to stop groaning once they see that other students are being rewarded to their good behavior.

Comments: I like this solution because you are acknowledging the students that are following directions with appropriate behavior; although I would probably praise them more often than reward them. Too many rewards will make the students think they should be rewarded every time they follow a direction.

Comments: I agree that constant loud noises should not be tolerated, especially if they are being disruptive and influencing other students to make the noise as well. I like the idea of a token system as a reward but also think there are other ways to help the student to be quiet and do what is right that doesn't involve rewards.

Comments: I agree! The student needs to learn how to be respectful and they need to understand that making noises can come off as rude (which im sure that they already know).
