Case: Making fun of other students is not nice
There is a student who always comes to class late and stays past the schools time. I always see other students making fun of this students clothes that they wear. This student is always trying to fit in with the other students by making pranks in class and interrupting the teacher when they speak. I have tried to talk to this student but nothing seems to be working. Does anyone have any solutions for me? I can tell that it hurts this students feelings when they get made fun of. I feel like I have run out of options.

I would address this by having a discussion in class about what is not tolerated when it comes to bullying. Then I would have a conference with the student to find the root problem of being late or staying late after school. Depending on how much the student shares, it may be necessary to direct him to a counselor or administrator to have a discussion with their parents. |

Comments: I think it is a good idea for the teacher to talk to the parents and have a good relationship with them, learn what the student is dealing with in- and out-side of school the cause for the lateness could be out of the student's control, and finding out likes of the student, which the parents could also help with, would allow for you to pair the student up with another student with similar interests in group/partner work and making friends is a good buffer against unwelcome attention. Also addressing the bullying from the other students and letting them know that it is not okay to make such comments about another person. |

Comments: Get the whole class involved in the issue can bring new rules to the classroom to improve a safe and welcoming environment for every one. I definitely think that talking with this particular student to find the root of the problem can give me more ideas to help this child. Maybe he/she is in a need of a counselor I would not know until I find more about his life. |

Comments: I like this solution because having a one on one with a teacher is what maybe the student needs and a counselor is a good idea. |

Comments: IF I were in this situation I would exactly do this. This is the best solution due to the direction of getting a counselor involved. |
