Case: Kissing at recess
Some of the kids have made up a new game at recess. The boys will chase the girls with kissing gestures and sometimes kiss them when tagged and vice-versa. I have witnessed this game and told students to stop. The matter was also addressed to the whole class after recess. One week, later students are playing the game again. What should I do?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would address them as a class again, tell them that they've already been warned once and if they do this again they will all lose recess for the rest of the school year. |

Comments: Recess is required. You can't take away recess for the rest of the year. This would be an idle threat. |

Comments: Giving such a harsh consequence without talking about the issue at hand is not the answer |

Comments: Having the punishment being losing recess for the rest of the year is very extreme. And then you are in the situation where if they do it again and you don't follow through with your punishment, the students will see that and not listen to your future instructions as much. |

Comments: While I do agree that their recess privileges should be taken away, if it is taken away permanently, students will have nothing to improve for. They will just decide that they have nothing to lose. |
