Case: Why do you want to work for our school district?
If you are asked this question in a job interview for a teaching position: What are some things you should avoid when responding to this question? What might be some important points to stress that would get the interviewer's attention? How would you respond to this question?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would not tell the interviewer that I want to work in the school district simply because I live in the district and it is convenient. Depending on the district, I would stress that I think the district is well established and respected, or it is a promising, up and coming district that I want to be a part of. I would only make positive statements, and keep my personal disagreements with the district, if any, to myself. I do not see this as lying. I could not, by myself, change the entire district and its policies, so nitpicking will not get me anywhere if I want a job. |

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would do exactly this. I feel that by complementing the school district and explaining in detail of why you want to work for that district specifically is a great idea and will capture the interviewer's attention. |

Comments: I agree. I would also say that I know people who have been pleased with the school system (if that's true) |

Comments: I don't see the harm in saying that you live in this district because you live close as well. No one would share the negatives in general to the district. |

Comments: I wish I could go half on this. Sometimes proximity can be a good thing, but also understand that if the district makes cuts, they can move a teacher to a different school regardless of their location, tenure, or assessments. |
