Case: Students in question of abusing school technology
Yesterday, while in my ESOL Practicum classroom, the teacher received an email from the school's media specialist that shared a current student misbehavior. At some point that morning, a student used a school Kindle to log-in to Amazon and complete three purchases. He did not say what the items were, just that a student Kindle was being used for a shopping spree. My CT was super nervous because several of her students had been on and off the Kindles that morning. She had no idea to even go about talking to the students about it. If you were in her situation, how would you go about this? What would you do?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
As a teacher she should not be scared to adress this with the students as they are in the wrong. Also as a teacher she should be able to go back an find out who did the shopping or the media specialist should be able to see what was ordered and where it was being sent to. I would then address the student about ordering things on the school technology resources as that is not what they are for. I would then warn the student to not do it again as they would then loose the use of the kindles. |

Comments: I feel this attitude is too aggressive and confrontational for what is ultimately a harmless violation of the rules. I also feel like the teacher would not actually be able to pinpoint who did it. So this solution is ultimately suboptimal. |

Comments: I do not think this is the best solution to the problem, I would not bring this up to the student alone but would involve parents and administration because it is a piece of school property they are abusing. |
