Case: Unreachable Parent
I am dealing with a group of students who are off task and choosing to talk instead of work in class. The students have been redirected and informed that they need to stay on task and quit talking. When this does not work my first step is to contact the parents. Three of the students parents are unreachable due to phones being disconnected or wrong numbers. I don't know what I should do next.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Hello,
I would try to connect with the students and see what the reason behind their behavior is. Maybe they're close friends and just have a lot to talk about. In this case, i would simply separate the students.

Comments: Even if the students are close friends, there is a time and place for when to talk. There is lunch time and probably more opportunities in the classroom as well. Connecting with the students is a great idea. |

Comments: While a good idea, it does not directly solve the dilemma the instructor is having with reaching out to the parents. |

Comments: This solution may not solve the problem. Separating the students may make the problem worse. This solution also has does not solve the issue of not being able to contact the students' parents. |

Comments: This solution will likely not work either, as separating students without any parent contact may incite behavioral problems next. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that children simply "have a lot to talk about" and do not possess some other form of issue. |
