Case: What are your fears as you begin your first year teaching?
If you are asked this question in a job interview for a teaching position: What are some things you should avoid when responding to this question? What might be some important points to stress that would get the interviewer's attention? How would you respond to this question?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
When asked this question, I would avoid telling the interviewer that I am afraid of dealing with special needs students or students with a bad track record. I would probably just say that I am afraid I will feel flustered occasionally. I want to be able to face issues with a clear mind. I just don't want my first group of students to throw me off and diminish my determination.

Comments: I can understand where you're coming from, but I don't believe it's a good idea to say that, "I don't want my first group of students to throw me off and diminish my determination" because then it gives them an idea that you don't want certain kids with bad track records and so on.

Comments: I don't think telling the interviewer you'd be afraid of feeling flustered occasionally because your students and even administration will pick up on your frustration. If you do answer it this way, make sure you have a solution.

Comments: I do not agree with this solution. I do not think confessing your fears of having the students take away your determination and being flustered is the best way to respond to this question asked.

Comments: If you are afraid to have students who are different, then I do not believe that teaching is right occupation for you.
