  Case: Time taken away
My CT and I are trying to figure out things for students to do when they have time taken away (from recess or fun Friday). We have them work on assignments they have not finished, but they finish them quickly because they think they can leave after. We do not want to make them read or do other types of work because we want them to love reading and enjoy doing their work, but we have no other ideas. HELP!!!
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Sounds like this is the best course of action because taking away their recess should encourage them to get their work done ahead of time so they can participate.

Comments: I do not like this solution. Many students do not receive Physical Education daily, or even weekly of they attend other resources such as Speech during their elective time. Recess is a time for students to get out their energy, making it easier to focus in class afterwards. It is also a time for students to learn how to socialize and interact with their peers in a non-learning environment. It is important for students to practice these skills, especially while running around and getting exercise, which many students do not get enough of. I think talking away "Fun Friday" is acceptable. They should not be rewarded if they are not behaving properly. During this time they can do chores after there work is completed as mentioned, but as you mentioned reading should not be a punishment, it should be something they enjoy doing.

Comments: I do not think taking away their recess is a good idea because that is sometimes the only time for them to get out the wiggles.
