  Case: General Disruptive Student
Eddie has been very disruptive during class. He comes to class unprepared, often late, and likes to talk to the students around him. You have given him several verbal warnings. You have followed the classroom and school policies and now the parents will have to be called. Use your best "conferencing skills" to conduct the conference and establish a plan of action to enhance Eddie's educational experience.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Going into any conference, I would definitely begin the conference by listing positive traits of the student. I will also be sure to come up with a good amount of baseline data of the behaviors in the classroom. I will also be sure to ask the student's other teachers to see if the behavior is occurring in other classrooms, and not just my own. I will explain that Eddie is not making the best choices in the classroom, and I will show the parents his data chart. I will explain the different classroom and school policies to make sure that the parents are aware of what has taken place in the classroom. I will let them give me feedback as to what they think about the entire situation. I will hear them out and let them say everything they need to say. It is important to have parental support.

Comments: I like your solution a lot. It is important to always say something positive about the student. I was taught to even end it with another positive comment.

Comments: Opening with positives is a wonderful starter to the meeting. Involving other teacher's experiences with the student is also a great way to pinpoint if he has issues in just one class or all across the board.

Comments: The data chart is a perfect way to show the parents what is going on with him. Parental support is most important. We just want what is best for the student. Maybe the parents could give advice on what to do to help in the classroom.
