  Case: A valedictorian
You are a high school teacher, and Luke Stresswell is at the top of his class with some close competition not far behind. He is doing well in your class, but the focus of the conference with his parents becomes, "Luke cannot get an A- in your class because he is valedictorian." What would you do in this situation?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would stress that it would not be appropriate to play favoritism when dealing with grades. Every student is entitled to the grade that they work for and the grade should be an honest reflection. I would praise the parent for being involved with their child's schooling and to use that involvement to help them study and work hard. Even though the student is doing well, I would offer tips to continue doing well and open up extra credit activities for the entire class.

Comments: I would not use this as a solution to this situation. Even though you would be offering extra credit to the whole class it is not fair that you offered this chance just because a certain student needed it.

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would not use this solution because a teacher should not open up extra credit (even if it is for the entire class) only to help one student get a passing grade to be the valedictorian.

Comments: I don't think this would put the parents concerns to rest and would find that sort of response to be somewhat condescending.

Comments: I agree with this advice. Praising the parents and encouraging them to use their involvement to help their child study will help the student obtain a higher class grade through honest means. Providing the parents with tips and resources to help their child achieve a higher grade is also important, as it shows the parents you genuinely do care about their child's success and want them to bring their grade up.
