Case: Bullying in the classroom
During my internship, I have noticed that one student in my 4th grade classroom is getting picked on regularly. My CT has addressed this with the class multiple times but the bullying still continues. I have also stepped in and explained to the student that their comments say more about them then they do about him. He has tried ignoring them, sticking up for himself etc., but these kids are relentless! The administration has been contacted and these specific students have received consequences for their comments but no change has availed. What steps should be taken now?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
It might just be better for the student being bullied to be transferred to another class where the bullies cannot bully him. Since consequences are not stopping these bullies. |

Comments: I don't think the student being bullied should have to move classroom rather it should be the child instigating the bullying. |

Comments: That can't be the only option and it's not fair to the victim |

Comments: Not a solution. It's the job of teachers to provide a safe, warm and inviting environment for ALL students. |

Comments: The bullying would just persist in the other classroom with a different student because the bullies will have gotten away with their behavior without ever actually learning their lesson. This is not a real nor effective solution in the long term. |

Comments: I do not think this is the best answer, the student has done nothing wrong and this should be the absolute very last resort option. The other students should be held accountable for their actions. |
