  Case: The Class Clown
When you ask a student a question relating to the material she always gives a sarcastic comment or makes a joke out of the question. Now she is starting to make jokes randomly during the lesson. This gets the class off task and takes several minutes to get them refocused. How do you deal with the situation?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would also talk to her. See what is going on at home. You may not know that there is something going on at home. I would then let her know that this cannot continue. I would start a chart for her to ear points, class money,or some kind of reward for every 10-15 minutes she does not have an out burst. As she gets better about not making remarks on everything you can increase the time to 20-30 minutes.

Comments: This solution is useful because it will have long term affects. If the student is in fact having issues at home, this approach will unveil those issues and positively influence the students behavior.

Comments: I do not agree with setting up a reward system for this one student. It is expected of the students to behave in class. If the other students see that this one student can now earn rewards for doing what they have been doing all along, they will start misbehaving to reap the same benefit.

Comments: I disagree with this more than I agree. I think it may be to much to reward every 10-15 minutes. I think this solution it time consuming.

Comments: While the solution is relevant to the case, i agree, that rewarding the unwanted behavior is not the best approach to stopping the behavior.
