Home | How It Works | Stats Login | Register         Case: Student being inappropriate to teacher I have a boy, around 18 years old, in my class that I am interning at that loves to make sexual comments at me and talk about me in a sexual way to his friends for amusement. I have tried everything I can to stop this student from doing this, including going to administration. Nothing has changed! My CT tells me to ignore him and he will stop. I am not comfortable with this and I do not want it to escalate to other students. What should I do? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) I understand your frustration and would be uncomfortable too, however, he may be doing it to get a reaction from you. I would try to ignore it as best as possible. However, it will not happen overnight and this teacher will have to practice a lot of patience and have self respect. The student will continue to make those comments until he is confronted. If left unchecked it will continue to happen and may get even more out of hand. I don't think ever ignoring a problem has ever been a good solution. Especially in young children. I think you should correct and redirect the student every time comments are made. The student is being disrespectful and is making the teacher feel uncomfortable. Ignoring it would be a poor way of handling the situation. Students need to learn respect and understand how these things are not appropriate. He's doing it to get a reaction from his friends, so if she doesn't give the reaction he'll find it somewhere else! This isn't very helpful and it most definitely won't stop it.
