Case: Student being inappropriate to teacher
I have a boy, around 18 years old, in my class that I am interning at that loves to make sexual comments at me and talk about me in a sexual way to his friends for amusement. I have tried everything I can to stop this student from doing this, including going to administration. Nothing has changed! My CT tells me to ignore him and he will stop. I am not comfortable with this and I do not want it to escalate to other students. What should I do?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I understand your frustration and would be uncomfortable too, however, he may be doing it to get a reaction from you. I would try to ignore it as best as possible. Then he may realize it isn't working being inappropriate and will stop. |

Comments: I think this solution will most likely diminish the problem in the long run. However, it will not happen overnight and this teacher will have to practice a lot of patience and have self respect. |

Comments: I feel that this definitely needs to be addressed and right away. The student will continue to make those comments until he is confronted. If left unchecked it will continue to happen and may get even more out of hand. |

Comments: I find this solution not useful. I don't think ever ignoring a problem has ever been a good solution. Especially in young children. |

Comments: I would not ignore the student as these comments could escalate or cause hearsay. I think you should correct and redirect the student every time comments are made. |

Comments: This is not what I would do in this case. The student is being disrespectful and is making the teacher feel uncomfortable. Ignoring it would be a poor way of handling the situation. |

Comments: I think that just ignoring it will only hurt the teacher emotionally for having to just deal with the comments. Some action needs to be taken. |

Comments: If the student has been told to stop and this behavior is continuing then a parent teacher conference with administration may be better to have than ignoring. Students need to learn respect and understand how these things are not appropriate. |

Comments: Ignoring something like this won't help. He's doing it to get a reaction from his friends, so if she doesn't give the reaction he'll find it somewhere else! This isn't very helpful and it most definitely won't stop it. |
