  Case: Making jokes
In my internship, my CT allows call outs and sarcasm in the classroom. I am the most sarcastic person in the world, but sometimes I feel as though she can not get through a lesson because she is allowing these students to call out and make jokes every 5 seconds. How can I show her this is a distraction for most students? Also, how will I be able to stop this when I go to teach in her classroom?

As far as making sure this does not happen when you become a teacher is by putting a stop at the very beginning of the year. Within the first few weeks of school just make it known to the students that you will not have any tolerance for sarcasm. If there is a student who is giving sarcasm in the classroom make sure to punish him or her to make sure the student knows it as well as the rest of the students in the class. As for the classroom you are interning with, that is a hard situation. I think it is hard to say something because it might not be your place to say anything.

Comments: I agree that it is important to set the rules and expectations at the beginning of the year and it is important to not let any misbehaviors slide. However, I believe that rather than punishing a student in front of the entire class for being sarcastic, it should be made extremely clear when going over the classroom rules and consequences that those types of behaviors are unacceptable.

Comments: I personally don't like this solution, but that's just me. I wouldn't want to punish my students. I'd welcome some sarcasm, but not every five seconds. I'd try to find a better solution to reduce the sarcasm.
