  Case: Skipping
I have students that will skip class every day. I have build rapport with my students so they stopped skipping my class, but they keep skipping other core classes. I do not know how to get my students to care about school or their future. I tell them I will write them up, or call their parents, but it does not seem to upset them. How do I get my students to care about school and about their futures?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
If I were in this situation, I would send them to the principles office and see if you can get them suspended and sent home. I know from experience it is hard to get students to care about futures because they think they will not get very far. I believe that sometimes you have to show them what they are missing out on.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) No
The suggested solution is relevant to the case No
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement No
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue No
The suggested solution is original No
Comments: Students are clearly saying they do not care. Sending them home is going to reward them because all they want is to do nothing.

Comments: The principal can't do much about skipping either. I believe this teacher could work with them over time instead of getting them in trouble.

Comments: I believe if they already have a lack of interest by skipping class, you are giving them what they want by suspending them and not solving the actual problem.

Comments: This will make them even more likely not to come back to school because they don't want the punishment let alone the studying and homework and all.

Comments: Even though it is hard, that does not mean we should just give up and get them in trouble. These students obviously do not care if they are getting in trouble-maybe that is their goal? It is important to investigate and get to through root of the issue to ensure this does not escalate.

Comments: I do not think that getting the student suspended from school is going to help them refrain from skipping once they return. If anything, the student may be happy because they get to stay home from school and skip the whole entire day with permission.

Comments: I disagree with this solution because students who are skipping class frequently will probably enjoy being sent home and suspended, and see it as a reward. A meaningful discussion and an attempt to build a strong relationship with the student will likely be more beneficial than sending them home and ignoring them.

Comments: Sending students home to prevent them from skipping could only further exacerbate the problem. We are trying to get them in class more not less.
