  Case: Test Writing Committee
I have been volun-told for a test creating committee for my county. While this is a compliment as I am seen as an expert in my area, I dislike that we are not paid anything additional and it takes time from our students. Many of the days we get together take place during the school day so my students have a sub. Can you politely decline an assignment? How do you make the "boss" see that you are taking away from kids by pulling us from the classroom?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would suggest attempting to say something along the lines of "I am honored. However, being away from my students for multiple days will ultimately be a disservice to them."
At that point, I can see two things that could happen.
1) you'll be off the hook.
2) They won't care and you'll still have to do it. Perhaps they may be amenable enough to reschedule to after school or only half days.
