Case: How do I use this?
While is was in my ESOL practicum I ran across students that the teacher said knew how to use the resources she offered in her class, like the translation dictionary, and vocabulary journals, but they had no idea. I did not realize this till I was trying to teach a lesson that involved both. I stopped my lesson and began to go over how to use both resources. Should I let the teacher know?

Of course! The teacher should be told what the students were saying. This way she can either remind the student how use the resources or let you know that the child is lying and wanting attention. Either way, it is ultimately it is his/her classroom, so they should be aware of the situation. |

| Comments: I agree. It isn't clear whether the student just forgot how to use the resources, is lying about not knowing how to use the resources, or if they really don't know how to use them. Regardless, the teacher should be made aware of the situation. |

| Comments: I would be very careful in how I would bring this up to the classroom teacher. Not all teachers take kindly to being told that their students didn't actually know how to use or do something that the teacher might have already taught or assumed that they knew already. Very touchy situation for sure, but I would definitely inform the classroom teacher of the extra quick lesson. |

| Comments: I think it is a good idea to tell the teacher who knows their students so if the student needs help they can get it or if the child is saying that to either get out of work or get attention the teacher can inform you so that if the situation occurs again you would know how to handle or deal with it.
