Case: Student cannot and will not keep hands to himself
I am facing a situation where there is a 9 year old boy who can't keep his hands to himself. I have constantly seen him doing things like walking up behind kids and taking a wisp of hair and yanking it... flicking/kicking them from behind... coming up from behind and smacking them on one shoulder and then quickly shifting over far to the other side (you know, the old 'who's there' stunt) etc.... etc.... etc.... You never see him without his hands on somebody. Any ideas?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Give that child something else to hold so that his hands are already occupied. If his hands are busy working on another task, then it will be harder for that student to grab another item. Everytime you see that student with their hands quiet and to themselves, you need to make sure you use positive reinforcement. When you see good behavior, reward that student. Maybe after so many times a day with hands to himself, you can have him choose an activity that he likes to participate in.

Comments: This is very good! To give the student something to keep their hands steady would most definitely be more at ease, and thus a better environment for learning.

Comments: I agree, this may be a sensory issue as much as anything. Giving the child something to hold, such as a small toy or stuffed animal might help him keep his hands to himself.
