  Case: Tattle Tailors
I am currently in my K-5 internship where I have students constantly approaching me to essentially "tattle" on their other classmates. Examples include "he tripped me", "she threw something at me", "Robert stole me pencil", among others. How do I decrease the amount of "tattling" in my classroom?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Firs thing first, construct a mini lesson or class discussion about how we can be big girls and boys. I had a teacher who used to ask the students every once in a while, "who should we be worried about?" and the kids would respond "ourselves". Of course if someone is being mean to you you should step away from that person, and if someone calls you a bad name you just ignore them and after that and they continue come to the teacher. if someone put their hands on you, immediately tell the teacher. the goal is to encourage them to be come to you when they are being hurt but for small things you want to praise them for big boys and girls.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) Yes
The suggested solution is relevant to the case Yes
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement Yes
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue Yes
The suggested solution is original Yes
Comments: I like the idea of making this into a lesson, because it is a concept that will stick with the students as they become older. It is important that the students know that they should come to the teacher if they are hurt, but they do need to understand that tattling is not a mature thing to do.

Comments: Relaying to students that they should act like "big boys and girls" I do not believe is the best way to approach the problem. It does not mention what grade level the students are in, but from grades K - 2, a simple stuffed animal that they can "tattle" to works wonders. Grades 3 - 5 could implement a "suggestion box" type of problem solving technique in which a student writes their tattle on a piece of paper and at the end of the week there is a class meeting to (anonymously of course) discuss negative behaviors going on in the classroom and present group suggestions on how to solve the "tattles".

Comments: I like this idea. Ensuring the students know who they should be most worried about will help them understand they don't need to tell the teacher everything they see others doing. Also explaining when they should come to you immediately is important.

Comments: I don’t think this is an amazing idea because we don’t want the students to feel like they can’t trust us with their issues or want them to feel like they’re just being brushed off, but i do think it’s an okay first start!
