My whole life I've struggled with being a confrontational person, and I Worry that once I begin teaching I will still struggle with this in the classroom. I know how easy it is to lose control over a classroom, and the importance of disciplining students and correcting misbehavior before it spreads. But if anyone else has struggled with confrontation like I do, what measures should I take to become comfortable with confrontation? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) It will be important to establish the rules and procedures of your classroom on the first day of school. You can attempt to avoid confrontation by doing this. However, there will be cases where you will need to be stern and discipline students. How you discipline will depend on the the rules, rewards, and consequences that you developed for, or with, the class. This will create a partnership between you and the students where everybody knows what is expected and what happens if those expectations are not met.
