  Case: Smoking
I have a student who smokes cigarettes. He told me him and his mom smoke together. How do I provide guidance to my student when his parents can't help show support themselves. I do not know how to appreciate the situation without the student feeling cornered.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Just report this to the guidance counselor. He/she will move forward to providing the student health help and possibly slow is intake of cigarettes or stop it all together.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) No
The suggested solution is relevant to the case No
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement Yes
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue Yes
The suggested solution is original No
Comments: While reporting the situation to the guidance consular would help the student get help, it would be as if you have brushed the problem aside for someone else to handle. Its not very responsible as you originally took the initiative to help the student in question.

Comments: Reporting to a guidance counselor is lazy and childish. Teach the student how unhealthy it is using tangible scientific teaching tools.

Comments: Although thsis is one of the things that we are supposed to do, I do not think that it would actually help the student. When something like that is so comfortable at home its going to take more than a councelor to help the student.

Comments: I think that talking to the student would be more effective than going to the guidance counselor without talking to the student first.

Comments: I don't think this solution will help, going to the guidance counselor will not make the student quit if he is doing it at home.
