Case: Group presentations
After my class completes a group project I usually ask who wants to present/speak out of the group then after the student presents I ask if the others wanted to add anything. Is this the right way to go about presentations or should I have everyone say something?

In my opinion, I believe that everyone in the group should have some sort of participation during the presentation portion of the group project. To ensure that this happens, you could assign each student a specific section of the group project that they need to research and complete and/or allow the students to decide amongst themselves who is going to research and complete each different section. When it comes time to present the project, have each student in the group present the section that he/she has researched and completed. |

| Comments: No all students are going to have the confidence to give a public presentation, even if it is just to the class. So maybe allow smaller jobs for students to show that they have helped and make them sign off what their job duty was. |

| Comments: I agree that everyone should have a part in the group presentation. Any group project I have had the teacher required each person to present a portion of the project. Assigning each student a section of the project is a good idea. Assigning a group leader who is responsible for dividing the project up into equal parts, in my experience, has worked as well. |

| Comments: This is exactly what I would do. Every student needs to present even if it is a small portion. I think having a rubric that is broken down into sections is a great idea also so students can easily chose who does what section. |

| Comments: This is a good idea. Forcing students to speak during a group presentation ensures equal participation among the group, as opposed to letting one student carry the team. It also forces more reclusive or shy students to break their shell, if only for a few minutes. This is a good way to slowly build their social and public speaking skills, and it never hurts to simultaneously build academic skills and skills that aren't taught in school. |

| Comments: I think this is a good solution and very reasonable. It creates the expectation that all students must participate and makes the workload even for all members. It also helps them practice their public speaking skills and makes sure all students are on the same page for the presentation. I would do this if I had this problem! |
