  Case: Pants Hang Low
I am in a classroom now and we are having an issue with one of our students not wearing pants that fit. His pants are to large and he has to walk around holding up his pants. His teacher has asked him where his belt is and he says that he left it at home or he can not find it. We have sent him to the office to see what they can do and they say that his mother says that she will handle it. Students are now beginning to make fun and I am not sure what to do at this point?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would bring a belt to school for the student. I would speak to him privately to remind him of the school rules on clothing and tell him to put the belt on his waist. I would not assume that the student is doing it on purpose because it could be a situation where the family does not have the money to buy clothes for the student and he has to wear hand-me-downs and doesn't own a belt. The student can either wear the belt for the day or keep it indefinitely.

The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement Yes
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue Yes
The suggested solution is original Yes
Comments: This solution is best because you are directly helping the student, rather than waiting to hear from the parents. They may never respond, so as a teacher the only thing you can do is help your student directly.

Comments: Although this is an ok solution I feel as though if I purchase and item for one student I would have to continue to do this and could become costly. I think speaking to the mother and seeing what the circumstances are would be proper.

Comments: I like your idea of bringing a belt for the child and pulling them aside and giving it to them and talking to them about the school rules. This way you don't embarrass them in front of everyone.

Comments: I like the idea of providing a belt to the student. Whether the student is wearing unfitting pants because he wants to or because that's all his family can afford, this solution will work. He cannot use the excuse that he does not have a belt or he now has access to belt that he could not previously afford, either way, the student now has a belt.

Comments: I like this solution. He may have circumstances at home that prevent him from having different clothes or a belt. Providing one for him to use is a helpful way to solve the issue short term and provide a way for you to form a relationship with the student so he feels comfortable letting you know if there are any issues at home.

Comments: I agree with this situation because it does not jump to the conclusion that the student is doing this on purpose. I would provide with a belt because his family may not be able to afford it and if he then chooses to not wear it then disciplinary action can take place.

Comments: This is a great idea because the student's family may not have money for clothes or a belt. Bringing one for him shows that you don't want him to get in trouble and also it may help prevent students from laughing at him. Giving them the belt privately also doesn't draw attention to the fact that they may not have money, because others will just assume that's the reason if you hand it to him directly and it would also embarrass the student.

Comments: Sometimes parents are busy and honestly Know from self experience I needed a new belt and it took me forever to get one because its just not one of those things that crosses your mind at the store. If the student is needing and wanting to have a belt I would definitely just bring him one to use or keep until he is able to get a replacement.
