  Case: Team participation
I teach an afterschool STEAM program which requires team participation. This class gives the students a lot of freedom, however, I have two students in one group that rarely participate. Most of the time the two students are meowing to each other and pretending to be cats. I can get them to participate when I assign them a task that interests them, but this is usually a task I would consider as busy work. I would really like them to get the most out of the group task that I present them with and not just do busy work. How can I get them to participate more and not be a distraction to others?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
To make the students less distracted, make them work alone and on other sides of the class.

Comments: Making them work alone will do the opposite of what the teacher is wanting. They will instead act up more due to becoming frustrated and angry. Making them work alone will also not improve their social skills and cooperation skills.

Comments: I don't like this solution. It's a group activity, why make them work alone? I also feel like if they are friends and have a good connection, they shouldn't be separated.

Comments: I don't think making them work alone would be beneficial for anyone. Sometimes students counteract when you put them by themselves and might even be worse if you put them back in the group,

Comments: It is important to try to engage all students. I would just separate the twp friends and give verbal praise.

Comments: This is not a good solution. Dividing them from the class is not the greatest idea. They will notice that it is different and may cause more issues.

Comments: I do not agree with this solution and I would not recommend this. Having the students work by themselves in a program that requires team participation will not be beneficial to anyone.
