  Case: Classroom Management SOS
I am currently interning in a high school ESE room, the students are at levels between 2nd grade and 4th grade. The teacher that I am with has a hard time managing the behaviors of the lower level students. She has left me in the room at one point and one of the students threw his backpack at the fan that is in the room. I told her about the incident when she got back to the room, the student even came up and told her because he was proud of himself. She just told him to take his seat, was there something else to be done?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I work in an ASD classroom and at a special needs overnight camp. Even our lowest functioning, kindergarten autism/downs kids understand what a good choice and a bad choice are. Don't get too "wordy" with them, because they won't understand or they will getbored with what you are saying. Be very firm(not mean!) and very clear. "That is a poor (we avoid using the word 'bad' so to steer from 'bad student' language) choice!" or if they are capable make them answer you "was that a good choice or a poor choice?" and have them self reflect a little. Have CLEAR consequences and tell them directly "If you throw your backpack again, you will sit out from choice time (or some other free time) for 5 min" etc etc. That is not something that should be overlooked!
