Case: Dirty Backpack
Today I was helping a struggling student find a pencil inside her backpack and uncovered a 4 month old opened yogurt. This makes me feel like her parents do not regularly check on her school work or cleanliness.
How should I approach this situation?

When I was in 5th grade my teachers helped me organize my backpack and desk. My parents regularly checked, but I would mess it up on my own. They would come up to me with respect and ask if I needed help. Or just fix it for me. I would just ask the student if they need any help, or write a kind note home. |

| Comments: This is a great solution, many times it could be the student disorganize and making it a mess. I would try to say something to the student and if you keep noticing it, then contact the parents. |
