  Case: Wanderer
I have a high functioning ESE who loves to wander around the classroom he knows where he is suppose to be but chooses to do what he wants. When we line up always first in line and opens the door without being told causing other students to leave the room, he just basically does what he wants I redirect but it is the same thing everyday all day what should i do about this behavior?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would try to assign this child a classroom "job" that gives them a purpose. For example, a door holder or caboose. If they do not respond well to this, I would try to provide an incentive for staying in their seat during class, while still working to provide opportunities for the student to move around.

Comments: I agree, this could be a great way to redirect. Also, giving praise to the other students by saying “Oh thank you all for staying seated, I would like to give everyone a sticker for staying seated.” It might interest the student and have him sit down to receive a sticker

Comments: I don't think that this would work because the child would probably open the door without warrant if he was door opener.

Comments: Whenever I need to convince a student to do something, whether something small like paying attention or something big like reading through a paper on their own to find their mistakes*, giving them some sort of goal or prize at the end is always a great motivator. Giving this student a job (and emphasizing that it is their responsibility) should be a great first step.

*This is referring to someone I tutored rather than someone I helped in class.

Comments: I do agree that high functioning ESE students need to be kept busy in the classroom and stay focused on a certain activity. His wandering around the classroom may be because he is impulsive and does not think about the consequences of his misbehavior.

Comments: this is a unique approach that just might work. it demonstrates to other children that they cannot all do what they want, but also doesn't not imprision this ESE student who clearly struggles with the daily routine. a special job or incentive could work. if it continues maybe a sit down or deeper dive into what their special needs have been described by their parents and past teachers and professionals in the past

Comments: I do agree that this is the best solution, since it redirects the behavior in a positive way. Incentives would be a great additional solution if this doesn't work.
